Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The edges of the sheet are deckled and have discolored slightly with age, all of which is obscured by the top matte. Under close inspection, a small stain to the sheet is visible in the upper right corner. The collaged element is intact but is lifting very slightly at the lower right corner. The sheet is hinged verso to matte intermittently along the top and lateral edges. Framed under Plexiglas.

Catalogue Note

"I have worked to free shape from its ground, and then to work the shape so that it has a definite relationship to the space around it; so that it has a clarity and a measure within itself of its parts (angles, curves, edges and mass); and so that, with color and tonality, the shape finds its own space and always demands its freedom and separateness."
