Description

  • marked on bases, each tureen with one handle marked with lion passant only
  • silver
  • length 14 1/2 in.
  • 36.8 cm
with lion mask and paw feet, dolphin-chased bail handles, engraved with palms enclosing arms under earl's coronet and motto "NEC CUPIAS NEC METUAS"

Condition

a few minor dings throughout, all feet slightly pushed up in to bowl, otherwise good

The arms are those of Yorke, impaling Lindsay for Philip 3rd Earl of Hardwicke K.G. P.C. L.L.D, F.R.S. F.S.A. Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1801-6 and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of James 5th Earl of Balcarres whom he married in 1782.
