Catalogue Note

The 18th century pair of vases, currently at the Louvre Museum (inventory number OA 5213) were supplied by the marchands-merciers Darnault Frères for Mesdames Adélaide and Victoire, daughters of Louis XV for their Château de Bellevue. The vases were supplied in July 1782 with rocaille mounts over Chinese celadon porcelain and  later, following the request of the princesses on June 17, 1786, the mounts were replaced to their current design embellished with seated Egyptian figures.
