Condition

Overall in bright, attractive condition and presentation. The bronze has original gilding, showing some marks and areas of minor oxidation consistent with age and atmospheric conditions. One of the small stone plaques is loose and has a two inch chip with loss. One of the spiral tendrils is missing as shown in the catalogue image. One or two of the arms have been reattached and have new screws, none of which affects the overall decorative appeal.

Catalogue Note

Established in 1822 and still in operation today, Pietro Bazzanti e Figlio established the 'Galleria Bazzanti' at Lungarno Corsini 12, Florence, specializing in fine marble sculpture, mosaic, pietra dura and decorative objects they offered to visitors taking the Grand Tour. The firm participated in several major 19th century exhibitions, including Paris 1867, Vienna 1873, the Philadelphia Centennial of 1876, and Boston 1883, and were awarded several prizes.
