Catalogue Note

This paire de bras de lumière are identical to a pair supplied by the marchand-tapissier Darrac for the Empress Josephine's bedchamber at her apartments in the Palais Rohan, Strasbourg, in 1809, at a cost of 480 francs. The masks on the candle arms are a feature of Claude Galle's oeuvre, including on a pair of wall lights supplied by him in 1808 for Napoleon's second petit salon at the Palais de Compiegne (Dupuy-Baylet, op. cit.).
