Albert Heinrich Hussmann was fascinated by horses and as well as many racing groups he created an oeuvre of fantasy equestrian bronzes. His subjects, such as the present Amazon, were often taken from classical mythology. As well as this dying Amazon, drooping in the saddle of a rearing horse, he modelled a victorious Amazon pulling back on the mane of her horse which leaps over the body of her enemy. Both models were edited in an impressive large size, seen in the present cast.
