Please note that this exceptional console table is deliberately low in height and is best shown when positioned on a block or support. Redecorated and decoration now with some rubbing and wear. Some restorations throughout particularly to the apron and the stretcher and age cracks to some of the carved elements (two cracks to front left leg at knee). Marble in good condition with some light abrasions to edges.

A console table from an aristocratic collection in Westphalia, designed in a very similar spirit to the present lot with an elaborately carved stretcher depicting two Chinese warriors battling a dragon, is illustrated in H.
