of oval section, decorated with opalescent enamel over a waved engine-turned ground, the ends decorated with green and white enamel bands entwined by rose-cut diamond and seed-pearl berry branches, the silver-gilt interior inscribed under the cover (scratched by hand) In Remembrance of Lady Paget, 1919 (small chips), possibly by Fabergé, marked Cyrillic NB within a lozenge-shaped punch for an unrecorded master, with London import marks for 1912
Provenance
Mary, Lady Paget (1853-1919), born Minnie Stevens, was one of the first American heiresses to marry into the British aristocracy. A close friend of the Prince of Wales, she was a leader of the Americans in London. Lady Paget helped arrange the marriage of the Duke of Marlborough with Consuelo Vanderbilt, who wrote "with her quick wit and worldly standards, she was Becky Sharp incarnate."
