Condition
This decorative commode is in reasonable conserved condition. The top, probably associated, with losses to varnish. The parcel gilding has been re-gilt throughout, and there are loses and flaking in places, namely to apron, leg and top drawer. The carved detail to the border beneath the top has been lost as a result of the re-gilding which could be improved. Both gilt-bronze handles of upper drawer are detached but present, as is one of the bottom drawer. Part of one chute and one lower mount to corner are also detached but also present. The sides display age-related shrinkage and signs of old woodworm which appears to be no longer active. The colour is uneven and slightly faded to the right hand side. The back with inventory number C. 139. Overall, displaying old marks and scratches consistent with age and use.
