Description

  • wool, silk, woven tapestry technique
  • approximately 298cm. high, 357cm. wide; 9ft. 9in., 11ft. 8in.
depicting the seated goddess resting after the hunt, with the resulting quarry and her hunting accessories in the foreground, with an attendant and winged putti surrounding her in the landscape clearing, woven within a four-sided scrolling foliate border, on a dark walnut ground

Condition

Measurements: 357cm across the top, 352cm across the bottom, 298cm along the left, 298cm along the right. Tapestry is lined, with linen and has old hoops attached across the top edge. Recommend that Velcro should be attached for hanging purposes in the future. Right hand side inner border is later. There is a narrow line of surface white paint in diagonal line from bottom left to top right, in area of the foliage in top left corner, visible on close inspection. Towards centre of upper border there is a small horizontal split between upper border and main panel. There is a horizontal join in lower corner of right hand border. Original brown selvedge visible on left side. Gorgeous colour and charming subject and details such as the hounds in lower right corner. Overall stable condition. Very decorative tapestry and good size.
