Condition

In good restored condition. Wear to decoration and one repaired break to the top right corner of one chair's backsplat. With later supporting batons to the seat rails and later silk upholstery which would benefit from a gentle clean.

Catalogue Note

The form of these chairs relates to a number of designs by Hepplewhite & Co, issued in The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, between 1788 and 1794 (see plate 8). The publication noted 'a new and very elegant fashion has arisen within these few years, of finishing them with painted or japanned work, which gives a rich and splendid appearance to the minutest parts of the Ornaments'
