Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 21 March 2001, lot 94.

Condition

The wood panel is flat and stable. The panel is uncradled with only a few surface hairline cracks along the upper and lower margins, the most significant of which is at the centre of the lower edge and measures two inches in length. The painting appears to have an even if somewhat discoloured varnish with some surface dirt. There are a handful of minor losses at the upper left corner, the retouchings to which are now discoloured. Inspection under UV light reveals only a few scattered retrouchings, some of which are along the aforementioned surface crack at the lower edge. The UV light also shows that the varnish was applied unevenly and appears streaky. This lot is offered in a carved wood and gesso gilt frame with only some minor losses.
