Catalogue Note

Such scenes which feature scattered gardeners tools are typical of the work by the artist André-Vincent Vielliard, who formally worked as a painter of fans, and was active at the Sèvres porcelain factory as a painter and gilder from 1752-90. A comparable two-handled circular écuelle, cover and stand, painted with garden scenes by Viellard, reserved on a Taillandier ground was sold at Christie's Monaco, 7th December 1987, lot 232.
