Description

with two frieze drawers and opposing dummy drawers to the sides

Condition

A smart model in reasonable restored condition. The surface is re-polished and colour faded. Evidence of old worm resulting in each leg having repaired breaks. Brass tarnished. Minor old marks and scratches consistent with age.

Catalogue Note

The present table relates closely to a design by Gillows for a 'spindle end' table dated 1818. Another table of this type, stamped Gillows, is illustrated in Geofrey Wills, Craftsman and Cabinet-Makers of Classic English Furniture, London, 1974, p. 117, fig. 108.
