modelled in mirror image, each animal crouching with head turned sharply to the side, ears pricked, grasping a lingzhi spray in its jaws and supporting the moon on its back, brightly decorated with dark fur markings on a pale aubergine ground with yellow breasts, all supported on a rectangular base with fan shaped panels of flowers on reserved on a diaper ground (minor restoration)

Formerly in the collection of Victor Cavendish-Bentinck, 9th Duke of Portland (1897-1990);
Thence by descent

Condition

One hare has restoration around the bottom of both ears, top of the head and around the base of the moon, and a hairline firing crack running up half of one corner of the stand, the other hare has restoration to both ears, otherwise both are in good condition.
