9¾-inch thirteen piece enamel cartouche dial signed Jn Baptiste Baillon, the movement with verge escapement and silk suspension, numbered outside count wheel striking on a bell, signed on the backplate J Bte Baillon A Paris, No.2785, the waisted case veneered in green stained horn and with rococo scroll surmount and foliate mounts; on a conforming bracket

Condition

Dial in generally good condition, hairs cracks to II and V, VI and VII loose but we have them. Movement is complete but would benefit from a clean and fresh oil. Case in generally good condition, mounts have been cleaned and possibly re-gilt. Bracket as the case. With pendulum, winder and case key.

Catalogue Note

Jean Baptiste Baillon was appointed master clockmaker in 1727 and worked at Place Dauphine. He was clockmaker to the Dauphine, Marie Antoinette in 1770 and died in 1772.
