  • 34.4cm., 13 1/2 in. diameter, 20.3cm., 8in. high
bellied tapering circular form, the six-foil flaring scalloped rim applied with polychrome enamelled panels depicting rampant dragons above a lobed border, the oxidised copper or Shibuichi body applied with six cast rampant dragon handles, flanking six shibyama panels depicting various floral and faunal scenes from Japanese nature with coral, mother-of-pearl and hardstone applications and embellishments, on a golden lacquered ground, all raised on a pedestalled six-point scalloped base applied with polychrome cloisonné enamelled floral sprays, underside with applied and impressed signatures

Condition

All the Shibyama panels with brown pitting to the gold lacquered ground. The inlay with various losses but not significant (one panel missing teapot cover and leaf), there are also couple of the panels where there maybe signs of repair where a little crude due to signs of glue. Traces of verdigris to dragon handles. The oxidised copper has lost a little oxidisation, especially around the junctions of the dragons feet to the body. The enamelled sections with some small losses but generally very good. Impressive piece, would recommend viewing.
