the flat-dome cover embossed with winged putto and birds of paradise among scrolls, around a central inset commemorative coin depicting Christian VII of Denmark, hippocamp thumbpiece, ivory scroll handle, the body carved with a frolicking drunken Bacchanalian group on a foliate ground, raised on three fruiting vine feet; the rear supporting a seated boy and serpent

Condition

The ivory handle has been broken in one place and is held together by a pin. Various other hairline cracks. The main body is fairly crude in its carving. There are again a couple of hairline cracks running down from the rim although only visible from the inside. The cover is worn to the embossed areas. There is a repair visible to the underside to the rear foot. Otherwise condition commensurate with age.
