Formerly the property of Philadelphia steel businessman Frank Samuel (1859-1934), removed from his historic Philadelphia townhouse designed by Theophilis P. Chandler and built in 1899.

Condition

Generally good, presentable, unrestored condition. Scuffs, surface scratches and marks to surface consistent with age and use. Several areas of minor veneer loss and chips, mostly one inch or less in size. The marquetry on the central panel faded in certain patches and with narrow vertical age crack, extending from the top of the urn. The marble in two sections (as designed given the size of the piece), intact but with old repairs and the usual scratches and marks on the top consistent with placing of objects. The mounts with some pitting, dirt and scratches and discoloration consistent with age and atmospheric conditions. One mount possibly missing from top of central panel. The keyholes worn and probably previously with escutcheons.
