Condition

This chair is of lovely high quality. This chair will require treating for worm. There are areas of loss to paint throughout. There is rubbing and some losses to carved detail and definition of these decorative flourishes. Atmospheric and a very fine example that will look superb after some sympathetic workshop attention and upholstery.

Catalogue Note

The rounding of the seat rails, which lightens the structure without sacrificing stability, is a typical feature of Georges Jacob, and is seen in this example. The richness of the carving and the proportions are also reminiscent of Jacob. This chair features original painted decoration, following the 'Etruscan style' favored by decorators such as Dugourc.
