Condition
The painting sits on its original canvas, which waves slightly. The squared up lines are visible in the clearer areas of the composition. The painting would benefit from a light cleaning. The matter is thin in some areas, where we can observe the bear canvas. The painting is slightly clearer than in the catalogue.
Under UV light, one can observe traces of dirt, but no repaint is visible.
Very good condition.

Catalogue Note
This composition was executed for the church of Treuzy-Levelay, in 1947 (also see lots 60, 61, and 283 to 291). This Adoration of the shepherds shows the painter himself as a shepherd. At the center of the composition, the first shepherd is showing Marie and Jesus Champagne, the Boutet de Monvel's family dog (see lot 31 and 128).
