Condition

The paintings which sits on its original canvas would benefit from a light cleaning. The sides along the frame have minor wears and a very light reversed nook on the lower left. Under UV light, no repaint is visible but a few possible retouches may be present where the varnish is missing. The visual in the catalogue appears too white : the painting is warmer in reality. The painting is in excellent condition.

Catalogue Note

This painting was executed in September 1922, shortly after Sylvie Boutet de Monvel's birth. Bernard Boutet de Monvel catches a moment where his wife, Delfina, is sewing by their daughter's crib. Sober and elegant, the painting allies simplification with special attention to details. A watercolor on the same subject and a preparatory sketch are presented, lots 124 and 224.
