Condition
The painting sits on its original canvas. The artist used a stylet and a compas to execute some details, especially in the feathers of the hat ; traces of pencil are also distinguishable under the painting.
The composition does not seem to have been varnished : no repaint is visible under UV light, nor to the naked eye.

Catalogue Note
Dans cet émouvant profil de sa mère, réalisé en 1928, l’artiste s’attache à rendre avec un talent particulier l’élégance du chapeau à bride blanche et plumes d’autruche noires comme il l’avait fait quelques années plus tôt dans le portrait de sa femme Delfina coiffée d’une toque de Jeanne Lanvin (voir le lot 34). Voir le lot 1 pour un autre portrait de Madame Maurice Boutet de Monvel, peinte en 1878 par son mari.
