the canted cover attached to the box with brass hinges, lifting to reveal a shallow tray with a circular aperture, the base with deep single front, back and side panels, the sides set with angular bail handles, and the front with shaped quatrefoil lockplate and ruyi-head clasp, all above a shaped apron at the front, plain on the remaining three sides, and resting on low bracket feet, the wood of attractive grain and rich color

Condition

The top panel appears to be replaced. The interior tray is later added. It is possible the sides were built up to accommodate the tray. The mounts have been replaced. There is wear and general consolidation overall.
