上款：「陶齋」即端方（1861-1911），字午橋，滿洲正白旗人。光緒八年（1882）舉人，復捐官，後主持農工商局局務，得慈禧賞識，外放陝西，累功，遷調豫鄂湘等地，主政兩江、閩浙，歷任封彊大吏期間，推行新政，有能吏之稱。

政務之餘，極嗜收藏，其金石、碑版、鼎彝、善本、書畫等極豐，稱著於時，有藏品目錄多種傳世。

註：光緒三十年（1904），端方署兩江總督職不久，復調任湖南巡撫。本幅即費念慈倩陸廉夫繪圖誌別，蓋費、陸二人皆寓吳江，故畫上自稱「同作部民」。端方頗有政聲，且嗜收藏，與書畫界名宿聲氣共通，又扶掖文化，故一朝作別，以詩畫送贈，非泛泛應酬者，實「以寄去思」之作。

畫中金、焦二山，鎮江名勝也，乃長江中四面環水之島嶼，林木蓊郁，如江中浮玉，古剎碑林，隱約其中，具天然之勝，又兼得懷古之趣，而端方巡撫湖北時，曾「道出金焦，留連數日」，取之入圖，既示乃其治下之地，曾有邂逅之緣，與其好古之嗜亦相契，足見畫者心思。

本幅具張石園隸書署簽，與錢鏡塘「數青草堂」藏品格式如一，復貼「錢815」編號，可知源出錢氏舊藏。
