Description

  • ceramics
of compressed globular form with a straight neck and broad everted rim, supported on three slightly splayed legs each moulded with a vertical flange, covered overall save for the feet with an attractive sea-green glaze, metal cover, Japanese wood box

Condition

Three areas of the mouth have been professionally restored with the traditional Japanese kintsugi 'gold lacquer' method as visible on the photo. There is an extensive network of crackles and shrinkage in the glaze extending to the underside of the incense burner, original to the firing. There are further light scratches and imperfections, including a small dent in the glaze on top of the rim. The glaze itself is of a very attractive bluish-green colour.
