of oval form, surmounted by an openwork crouching mythical beast, the creature rendered with a bifid tail and turning its head towards its haunches, the seal face left uncarved

Condition

Please note that this seal is made of coral (corrallium rubrum) and not soapstone as written in the printed catalogue, the guarantee line should read 'A rare coral 'lion' seal, early Qing dynasty'. The seal is in overall good condition. There are a few expected tiny nicks to the edges and extremities, the most significant measuring approx. 0.6 cm to the lower edge. There is a small dent with some infill to the tipe of the lion's tail.
