the hollow crescent-shaped brushrest with five peaks rising above waves, the central peak incised with a ri character above a leaping carp; the wood calendar inset with gilt-bronze characters to the outer edge and to the inner movable dial, surmounted by a large hardstone handle carved with a coiled dragon

Condition

There is some pitting and some holes to the cast icnluding larger holes to the tips of the peaks, including two with old restorations. There is a dent at one end. There is some surface wear and oxidisation to the gilding. The calendar is made of zitan wood. It is a section of a larger item, possibly a lid. There are several sections of metal inlay which are missing as well as extensive cracks.
