Catalogue Note
RARE. The first typographically rather than xylographically three-colour printed annotated exemplar, published in four volumes. The first edition, without explanatory notes, was published in Shunzhi, in 順治 16, 1659 (stated in Preface). The first volume contains the contents, while volumes 2, 3 and 4 are devoted to the poems, being annotated, explained and occasionally punctuated. The annotations are printed on the upper-margin and in between the columns. Blue printed notes were added by Ji Yun, 紀畇 (1724-1805), famous literati and 'Grand Secretary to the Throne'. Black printed notes were written by Zhu Yizun, 朱彝尊 (1629-1709), well-known as the initiator of the West Zhejiang Group of poets as well as for his letters considered as important historical documents. Red printed notes were given by He Zhuo, 何焯, (unidentified).
