Catalogue Note
Michie (1833-1902), travelled from Peking to England in 1863, a journey that took him through North China, Chinese Mongolia and Siberia. In the preface he states: "I am not aware that any continuous account of the whole journey between the capitals of China and Russia has appeared in the English language for nearly a century and a half".
