Provenance

Presented by the artist to the publisher Chauncey Williams, then from Williams given to L. Frank Baum; inherited by his son Harry Neal Baum, from whom it was acquired in the middle 1960s.

Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966) was a highly influential American artist from the Golden Age, creating a wide body of work throughout his long career that range from the whimsical and delicate book designs to his ethereal and romantic pictures, large scale paintings and advertising.
