Catalogue Note

Pierre-Paul Jouve (1878–1973) was a French painter and sculptor, best known for his depiction of animals, especially his languid panthers, tigers, lions and elephants. His earlier work in art nouveau and art deco style are most sought after. His designs for the Fables of La Fontaine and later pictures of Angkor and Africa and related murals have made him world fame.
