Catalogue Note

Issei Suda is a Japanese photographer who graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography. Black-and-white images have become the signature of Suda. His photography is mainly street scenes and portraits. In 1971, the artist began travelling and documenting people, Japanese traditional culture and anything he found impressive and compelling. Suda used a medium-format camera and precisely observed his subjects, painstakingly describing what he saw. His works embody a sense of mystery and capture a world that is compelling and curious, eccentric and beautiful.
