Catalogue Note

Reclining Nude bears a striking resemblance to the legendary Kiki de Montparnasse. Best known as the Queen of Montparnasse, Kiki flourished in, and helped define, the liberated culture of Paris in the 1920s. It is difficult to imagine how stimulating and exciting would it be for Sanyu to meet Kiki, a symbol of outspokenness, audacity, and creativity in France.
