Catalogue Note

André Brasilier, born in 1929 in France, is a celebrated artist with a close affiliation to paintings of nature, horses, women, landscapes and the pastoral. A figurative artist, he nonetheless creates works with a surrealist and simplistic twist, and defiantly admitted: "I am absolutely not a realist painter." He prefers working with large-format canvases and has even delved into other media including stage-sets, mosaics, and ceramics. André Brasilier has been presented all over the world, and has had retrospective exhibitions at Russia's Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg (2005) as well as the Museum Haus Ludwig für Kunstausstellungen in Germany (2007).
