Catalogue Note

In regard to the work in steel, this emerged after using other materials. In 1976, I was drawing my figures, angles, arcs, and straight lines on canvas. I then moved on to wood reliefs in order to free myself from the artificiality of canvas and thereby to work directly on the wall. Each work was accompanied by its mathematical definition. In 1979, I drew a free line, i.e. one freed from mathematical constraints. I called it "indeterminate" and, in a kind of sliding of context, I took the line in all its forms as a key theme. From here, steel enabled my work to acquire another dimension and a stronger identity.
