Catalogue Note

First edition of Cartwright's refutation of the 1582 Rheims Catholic New Testament, one of the most significant productions of Brewster's clandestine Pilgrim press in Leiden. Two years after printing this work, Brewster embarked for the New World aboard the Mayflower. Cartwright's refutation includes the full text of the Rheims New Testament through the end of Matthew, and selected passages thereafter (hence its inclusion in Herbert).
