A large and impressive pair of French enamelled 'Persian-style' leaded-glass double-doors signed by J.P.Imberton, Paris, dated 1886

each leaded clear glass section painted with a mosque lamp and bottle-vase issuing a stylised floral bouquet, within a yellow-stained glass floral border, set in a wooden frame, signed and dated, J.P. Imberton 1886 in black enamel

Both in overall good condition, colours bright, each set with two metal hooks which had been drilled into the top section of the wood framework, the reverse of each set with three horizontal metal bars for consolidation, some minor dirt encrustation on enamel as consistent with age, one of panels with hairline breaks and associated restoration in three panels (notably on the panel with the signature and two in the border), the wooden frame with minor knicks, as viewed.

Jaques Philippe Imberton worked in the nineteenth century tradition of other French enamel artisans influenced by Islamic designs, also referred to as the 'Persian manner'. Taking part in many World Fairs, J.P. Imberton also created a new technique for the process of enamel-making.
