Catalogue Note

The style of decoration, notably in the design of the elongated, stylised figures and tall inscriptions was probably inspired by fourteenth-century metalwork bowls from Persia, see Metropolitan Museum of Art, inv. no. 35.64.2.

A similar, single ceramic bowl by Théodore Deck was sold in Sotheby's Paris, the Orientalist Sale, on 24 October 2007, lot 128.
