A fine Bezoar or Goa stone case, India, Gujarat, 17th century

of ovoid form, the two sections parcel-gilt and minutely engraved and pierced with stylised foliate scrolls over plain gilt body, interior silver, the terminals with engraved rosettes

In good overall condition, minor hairline scratches to interior, minor remains of blue-tack in between decoration, as viewed.

These cases, which were made for export as well as, presumably, for local consumption, have been variously catalogued as having been made in Goa, Gujarat and North India.
