Catalogue Note

The Satsai text reads:
"The red mark on her (Radha's) forehead with akshat/achhat (the whole grains of rice) on it looks so beautiful / as if the crescent moon, scared of demon Rahu has taken shelter in the planet Mars."

An auspicious hour for Radha to meet Krishna would be at the moment in which the two planets, Mars and the Moon, come into conjunction. The demon Rahu is afraid of Mars so it will not dare go after the moon which has taken refuge behind it.

We are grateful to Dr Singh's assistance in the re-attribution of this lot and the description of the text.
