Persian manuscript on paper, 40 leaves plus 4 flyleaves, 8 lines to the page, written diagonally and vertically in small nasta'liq script in black ink, the text area sprinkled with gold, catchwords, margins ruled in colours and gold, outer margins with possibly later-added leafy gold cartouches and animals, opening illuminated headpiece in colours and gold, reddish-brown morocco binding with central gilt-stamped cartouche with scrolling vine decoration

Condition

In reasonably good overall condition, water-staining to leaf edges, other occasional stains and rubbed areas, minor worm-holing to upper central margins, paper repairs to opening and closing leaves, binding worn, spine repaired, as viewed.

The author of this Diwan, Riyazi, may well be the author of an Ottoman tadhkirah called Riyaz al-Shu’ara and who lived between 1572 and 1644.
