Persian manuscript on paper, 7 leaves, 7 lines to the page, written in nasta'liq script in black ink, catchwords, text on f.1b and f.3a written within cloud bands against a gold ground filled with floral vines, the other pages on pale blue sprinkled with gold, outer margins flecked with gold throughout, opening illuminated headpiece composed of interlacing split-palmettes, reddish-brown morocco binding with central gilt-stamped lobed cartouche filled with scrolling flowers, with gilt borders

Condition

In generally good overall condition, some wear to binding with associated repair, water stains to outer margins and minor smudges, illumination bright and ink bold, as viewed.

The scribe Muhammad Reza is reported as a contemporary of Mir ‘Imad al-Hasani and is said to have moved to Istanbul and became famous there, returning to Tabriz only towards the end of his life. His recorded work is dated between 978 AH/1570-71 AD and 990 AH/1582-83 AD (Mehdi Bayani, ahval va athar-e khosh-navisan, vol.III, Tehran, 1348 sh, pp.726-8.
