Catalogue Note

Working during the period of Philippe-Joseph Brocard (1831-96) and the Orientalist fashion in Europe at the time, Ludwig Lobmeyr (1829-1917) was the first Austrian glass manufacture to create beautiful pieces inspired by Arab enamelled glassware. The present dish probably formed a part of, or was influenced by, the ‘Arabian series’, executed by Lobmeyr in collaboration with designers such as Johann Machytka and Franz Schmoranz who were known for their Oriental designs.
