Condition
Very good overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Abrasions to the left nipple, the top fingers, the left knee and loss to the back of the proper left foot and to the rear of the base.

Catalogue Note
Selon la classification stylistique établie par François Neyt (Songye, La redoutable statuaire Songye d’Afrique Centrale, 2004, p. 308-312), cette statuette nkisi relève d'un atelier Songye issu de la « deuxième tradition occidentale » (Milembwe septentrionaux, Elande ou Eki). A la force du visage traduite dans la bouche étirée, le nez largement évasé et les yeux aux pupilles serties d'une tête de clou répond le rythme serré des volumes épannelés, rigoureusement architecturés.
La patine sombre, légèrement grumeleuse, et les orifices percés dans l’abdomen et au sommet de la tête pour y inclure des charges aujourd'hui disparues, témoignent des pouvoirs qui lui étaient conférés, dans un cadre personnel ou familial.
