La palma e il cielo stellato, l’oasi, diventano dal 1966 elementi  iconografici che l’artista ripete ossessivamente nel corso di un triennio e che divengono una fase tematica della sua produzione. Le forme sono realizzate con l’ausilio di silhouette  ritagliate nel cartone e colore a spruzzo.
Questi elementi sono retaggio di una prima infanzia dell’artista immersa nel paesaggio libico, che ci appaiono come frammenti decontestualizzati, icone di un esotismo banalizzato da cartellone pubblicitario, rivisitati e ripersonalizzati da una pittura intensa ed espressiva. Un archetipo della memoria in technicolor.

In 1966 Schifano’s palm tree and the starry sky become iconographic elements that the artist depicts in an almost obsessive way; elements that turn into the main themes of his artistic production for the three following years. The shapes are executed with the aid of cut out cardboard silhouettes and spray colours. The remembrance of these images is rooted in the artist’s childhood spent in Libya, they appear as objects out of context, exotic icons trivialized into advertising panels, revisited and re interpreted with the aid of an intense and expressive way of painting.
