Catalogue Note
Head of the Éditions Cercle d’Art for 30 years, Philippe Monsel collaborated with several great artists in order to offer hundreds of reference book on their works to a public of amateurs.
This lengthy job of publishing fundamental books took place with the art of shared friendships. The artists frequently proposed Philippe Monsel to choose one of their works, as a testimony to their friendship. Sotheby’s has selected today, to the attention of amateurs and connoisseurs, a selection of twenty of these works, never yet exhibited (except sometimes as reproductions in books) from this brilliant private collection which reflects the informed, artistic gaze of this publisher, both friend and promoter of artists.
