- An Egyptian Alabaster Bust of Zeus Serapis
- Height 8 3/16 in. 20.8 cm.
after the monumental cult statue attributed to Bryaxis, dating to the late 4th/3rd Century B.C., the god wearing a chiton and himation falling from his left shoulder, with thick unruly beard of spiral curls, curled mustache, and long wavy hair falling in symmetrical curls onto the shoulders and deeply drilled locks over the forehead, a large mortise for insertion of the modius on the crown of his head.

acquired from an estate sale in Anaheim, California, probably circa late 1960s, along with the famous photograph of John and Robert Kennedy at the Democratic Convention, July 1960, by Life Magazine photographer Hank Walker
Condition
Generally good and as shown and described. Note chips at the top of the hair in front, also chips on edge of the base of the once-inserted modius. There is a large chip on the back of the drapery at the top. The upper front of the beard is worn down somewhat, and the nose is chipped. Minor nicks and abrasions.
