Description

  • An Egyptian Alabaster Headrest
  • alabaster
  • Height 7 11/16 in. 19.5 cm.
carved in three sections, with rectangular base, fluted stem with uninscribed panel , and rectangular abacus supporting the crescentic pillow.

Nicolas Tano, Rue Kamel no. 7, Cairo
Mrs. Mina Merrill Prindle (1864-1963), Duluth, Minnesota and Pasadena, California, acquired from the above prior to April 4th, 1922
thence by descent to the present owners

Condition

The pillow has two not very well done old repairs, and there are several chips along the edge. There is a chip at the base of the column, and the base has several nicks. Under the base is a pencil or ink notation, probably by Mrs. Prindle, as well as a large sticker covering part of it recording the purchase in Cairo in 1922.
