- A Roman Marble Relief Fragment

- 29 by 24 by 8 cm. 11 3/8 by 9 7/16 by 3 1/8 in.
carved with a figure of Silenos moving to left, holding a staff in his right hand, and carrying a wineskin over his left shoulder, his hair crowned in a wreath of ivy leaves and berries; no restorations.
Provenance
Nicos Dhikéos (1896-1987), Consul of Cyprus in Lyon, France, acquired in the 1960s (the style of the custom-made wood base suggests that the object was in private hands at least since the early 20th Century)
Condition
As shown. Areas of heavy incrustation on front and back. Nose and mustache chipped. Various minor chips and abrasions. One fresh chip on the underside now covered by modern mount.
